about
I create bowed musical instruments from the Middle Ages of Northern Europe and use them in recording. The single Forni (in Old Norse - Ancient) is a musical expression of the skaldic name (heiti) of the supreme Germanic god Odin (Wotan), known for his sacrifice of one eye for wisdom.
The concept of the track and the future Nordic folk album was influenced by a severe injury to my left eye, when I was recording Forni and other tracks of the album, I was completely blind in one eye for three months. I considered this a decisive factor in choosing the design of the album and this single in the Nordic folk genre. I used talharpa, munharpa, didgeridoo, growl, shamanic tambourine, percussion, drums, synthesizer. On the cover of the album there is a skull of an elk that I found in a wild forest, it refers to the antiquity and wild times of warlike ancestors. Half of the skull was drawn by me, an arrow sticks out of the eye of the skull of an elk, this symbolizes my damaged eye). Snow, blizzard, firs and pines, frost, I try to convey the spirit of the northern gods and pagan lands with my ethnic instruments.
Highly textural work drawing on South Asian percussion and wind/reed instruments from across the globe from producer/composer Liu Yi-Wei. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 25, 2022
The electroacoustic numbers on the new LP from memotone are intriguingly surreal, with shape-shifting pads and mist-like melodies. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 18, 2021
